Millions of gPhones
All of the hype around Google's supposed gPhone that's been keeping tech writers busy for the past few months has finally come to realization. Yesterday Google announced a new open source mobile operating system called "Android". So no gPhone (as of yet) but instead we get an operating system which will create millions of gPhones... or Androids.
What is Android?
Android is an open source operating system spearheaded by Google that will be available in the second half of 2008. The operating system will include Google software as well as give the carriers the ability to architect a system that they desire for their customers. If this were the case, I think that we would see the pace of innovation and user acceptance speed up.

Why do we care?
If Google can turn Android into the standard for mobile operating systems (which would not be an easy feat) developers and designers would be able to spend more time creating features / better experiences on one platform instead of re-coding / designing for the multitude of operating systems there currently are.
What would your magic phone do?
